How Bespoke Music Composers Engage Your Audience - The Tempo Trick.

Creating engagement is key to keeping your audience watching your film or video, or listening to your podcast.

And if you don't, then they will skip or swipe their way to something else (or change the channel if they are Old Skool!)

So when I'm composing bespoke emotive music for videographers, filmmakers, podcasters or broadcasters, I intentionally try to grab the audiences attention and jolt them out of their bland expectation of what is coming next.

But why would I want to do that?

OK....Here's the psychology bit:

Our brains love working out what is coming next...we do it all the time when listening to music. And when we get it right, our emotions give us a warm fuzzy feeling of contentment. The problem is, when we always get it right, we get bored very quickly and disengage with what we are listening to.

This is why we all scroll through our social media whilst watching a film....our brains are easily processing everything and we've become a bit bored.

Now the musical bit:

In order to keep your audience engaged, I use a range of techniques to keep their attention....that catches them by surprise......not in a 'I nearly pooped my pants kinda way', but in a way our brains subconsciously says to themselves, 'Ooo...I wasn't expecting that...lets keep paying attention to see what happens next.'

And this is just one of the techniques that I use to do that.....

So, what do you think? It's really subtle isn't it...and very simple...it just catches our subconscious and wakes up our attention.

And importantly, it keeps your audience watching.
